Sunglasses have a bright future

Wholesale Sunglasses

When it comes to sunglasses, we often wonder what “the next big thing” will be. As a wholesale sunglasses provider, that’s a question CTS Wholesale Sunglasses ponders on a great deal. So, here are a few thoughts about trends I see, in the near and medium future.

Sunglasses as the main wearable technology

As I have stated here many times, I don’t believe that watches are likely to become the dominant wearable technology. Eyewear, including sunglasses, provide a far more natural and useful experience.

Smart eyewear allows the user to do everything they can with a smart watch. On top of this, they can record video and shoot photos in high quality. They can also provide audio, via bone conduction in the arms of the frames. And let’s not forget, smart sunglasses are perfect for delivering HUD (Heads Up Display) data, which only the wearer can see. That means the wearer can sit on a bus and read their email, knowing that no one else can see what they’re reading.

The size of a watch display severely limits what it can do. For example, a cyclist wearing a smart watch can record how far / fast they went during a ride. However, with smart sunglasses, the cyclist can see a map of their route all the time on the HUD – as well as their vital signs.

Whilst Apple has just bet heavily on smart watches with the Apple Watch, Google has invested heavily in the new iteration of Google Glass. I believe on this occasion, Google has made the smarter bet.

Sunglasses that do more

Another area where I see significant growth, is in sunglasses that go beyond what people currently expect from their shades. I’m not talking about hi-tech here. I’m referring to lenses that change how people feel, by filtering what they see.

I wrote earlier this year about sunglasses, which are designed to transform the way you see the world around you. The media referred to them as psychedelic sunglasses, but what they really do is far more interesting. They change how you feel. Now, I have never worn a pair, but the potential for this kind of product is huge.

l have also written about blue light blocking eyewear, which is used to stop so-called blue light from reaching people’s eyes when they’re using digital devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. The blue light is believed to fool the brain into thinking it’s daytime. This means people who use their digital devices before going to sleep can find it hard to get a good night’s rest. By blocking the blue light, the glasses are said to make sleeping easier.

Regardless of what direction the sunglasses industry takes, one thing is for certain. The future looks exciting.
