It’s that time of year again. No, I’m not referring to summertime (well, not directly). I’m referring to the time of year, where there’s a surge in the number of outlets, selling fake designer sunglasses.
The reason I’m writing about this today, is that knock off sunglasses can be dangerous to your health. Here are 2 reasons why you need to be extremely cautious.
As you may already know, knock off sunglasses are usually built to far lower quality standards than the original. This is one of the reasons, why they are a fraction of the price of genuine, designer brands. You’re not only paying for the name on designer sunglasses, you’re paying for the quality of the component parts and the quality assured assembly of them.
By wearing poorly constructed sunglasses, you’re placing your eyes within almost direct contact of something that could break or fracture under even moderate contact. Your eyes deserve better protection than that.
Many of the knock off designer sunglasses offered for sale, lack the 100% UVA and UVB protection, which is required to protect your eyes from the sun’s damaging rays.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology warns us that being in the sun for long periods, without appropriate UVA and UVB protected sunglasses, can lead to a number of serious eye conditions. These include cataracts, macular degeneration as well as growths on the eye.
A better solution: Instead of buying fake designer sunglasses because you can't afford the real thing, it makes sense to buy an authentic, lower priced brand that will be built to safe standards and offer you the UVA and UVB protection you need. These lower priced, yet safe sunglasses, won’t break the bank — allowing you to save up for the genuine, designer sunglasses you want.
