Why You Should Wear Reading Glasses

Posted by Kirk Bachelder on 25th Oct 2018

Wearing reading glasses is more popular, convenient, and fashionable than they were years ago. There are many reasons why people choose to wear reading glasses, other than just for fashion. Here are some great reasons why you should start wearing reading glasses right away!

Glasses Are Better For Your Eye Health

Ophthalmologists usually recommend wearing reading glasses instead of contact lenses, and with good reason. This is because there are certain risks associated with wearing contact lenses often, and reading glasses are a much healthier choice for your eyes.

Since contact lenses cover the cornea of the eye, it reduces the amount of oxygen exposed to it. The reduction in oxygen supply to the eyes due to excessive usage of contact lenses or sleeping while wearing your contact lenses may cause hypoxia, which leads to redness of the eyes, blurred vison, discomfort, itchiness, and inflammation. It could also cause an eye infection which can be serious if not treated properly. Contact lenses also cause dry eyes. Wearing reading glasses on the other hand, helps you enjoy improved eye health, with no risk of dry eyes or infections.

Glasses Are More Convenient

Wearing reading glasses is much more convenient than wearing contact lenses, and here’s why. There needs to be a lot of planning, scheduling, and concern about caring for your eyes and lenses if you wear contacts. You need to be careful to keep your eye hydrated, take out the lenses before you take a nap, and carry around your lens case and cleansing solution wherever you go. This can especially be a hassle if you are a frequent traveler.

You need to always be careful to take out your contact lenses if you plan to take a nap, and most often, its hard to find a clean bathroom and hope that the lens doesn’t slip from your fingers! Reading glasses only require a sturdy case and cleaning cloth and you’re good to go!

Glasses Are Better If You Work With Computers

If your work demands that you spend all day in front of a computer, reading glasses would be the best option for you. This is because at the end of a long working day, your eyes tend to dry out if you wear contact lens, leading to itching, redness, and discomfort. Eye strain is magnified by the use of contact lenses, leaving your eyes dull and tired. Reading glasses on the other hand provides protection to your eyes, especially if you choose to buy anti-glare or anti-reflective glasses.
