I was listening to a fashion expert on the radio recently. He made a great point, when setting a question for the show's listeners. Here's the question he asked: "What fashion item can be worn all year around, by both men and women, regardless of the season?"

As you'd expect from the title of this post, the answer is sunglasses.

Sunglasses aren't seasonal

The fashion guy on that radio show is right. However, I'd go one step further... sunglasses are not just in fashion all year round, they are useful all year round too.

Allow me to explain.

It's the middle of winter as I write this and even though temperatures are down, the sun is still bright. When driving, the glare from the winter [or fall or spring] sun can prove a problem, a distraction and even a danger. 

In colder parts of the country, the winter sun reflecting back from frosty or icy roads and sidewalks is uncomfortable without sunglasses.

Have you noticed how the sun often seems brighter in winter than it does in the middle of summer? Well, you're not imagining it. In fact, there's a really good reason for it. You see, believe it or not, the earth is actually closer to the sun in January than it is in the summer! I won't go into detail here, but these folks explain it if you want to know more.
